When I started jMockups last June my goal was to build a full-fledged high fidelity mockup tool to compete with Photoshop.
With that objective somewhat realized, I find myself looking long term and trying to figure out what direction to take the company. The vision that excites me as well as a lot of other folks is not simply a high fidelity mockup tool, but a mockup tool that exports to HTML and CSS. And a mockup tool that generates code is not a mockup tool; it’s a website builder.
With the product changing, I’ve been faced with a decision of whether or not to keep the existing mockup-centric name (jMockups) or pick a new name that fully encompasses what the product will be. The downsides are numerous: brand confusion, an impact on search engine keyword rankings, and lots of time spent making administrative changes, to name a few. On the up side, I get to pick a new name that fits the new product. If you consider that this could be around for the long haul, changing the name 9 months into it (and 5 months post-launch) is not that big of a deal.
After talking it over with a few people I’ve decided to proceed with the name change. jMockups is no more. Welcome to Lean Designs.
It’s going to take some time to fully transition the site, but the majority of the work is complete. jMockups.com will now redirect to LeanDesigns.com. URLs that reference jMockups.com should still resolve at the new domain. For example, jmockups.com/tos will take you to leandesigns.com/tos. If you’re reading this via RSS, your existing subscription should still work fine. The only thing you have to do is to stop referring to the site as jMockups :)
And if you followed @jmockups on Twitter, don’t forget to follow @leandesigns.
Thank you all for your patience. As always, drop me a note if you have any feedback.

Update: If you’re on Mac OS X and jMockups.com doesn’t automatically redirect you to LeanDesigns.com, try clearing your DNS cache. Thanks to Chris Conley for the tip.
